There are weddings that are elegant and understated. There are weddings that are heartfelt and emotional. And then… there are weddings like Laura & Mark’s.

A September celebration at The Dairy Barns in Hickling, Norfolk that ticked every single “fun wedding” box - non-stop dancing, Colin the Caterpillar, a trip to the beach, and the kind of party stories guests will still be telling in years to come. The Dairy Barns – Rustic Charm Meets Full-On Party Vibes

I’ve shot a few of weddings at The Dairy Barns, and it’s one of those venues that just feels right for a celebration. Set in the Norfolk countryside, it’s got the warm, welcoming barn interiors, open space for guests to mingle, and a relaxed atmosphere that just lets people be themselves.

Laura & Mark’s day started with an indoor ceremony in the main barn, all soft lighting, happy tears, and a few knowing smirks from guests who were clearly ready for the party to follow.

Colin the Caterpillar Steals the Spotlight

Wedding cakes can be beautiful, elegant, and intricate. But sometimes, you just can’t beat Colin the Caterpillar. Laura & Mark had not one, not two but the whole family of memorable cakes - Colin, in all his chocolatey glory, and another creation that included their children in the design. It was personal, it was playful, and it fit the day perfectly.

A Beach Walk to Remember

Before the evening chaos hit full swing, we snuck away for a quiet moment at Waxham Beach. The weather was still warm from the September sun, and the sky started painting itself in those golden and pink tones you only get late in the year.

It was just me, Laura, Mark, and my good friend Michael from Strefford Films, who was capturing their day on video. The sea breeze, the sound of waves, and that huge open horizon - it was one of those rare, peaceful pauses in a day otherwise fuelled by music and laughter.

A Dance Floor That Didn’t Quit

And oh, the party delivered! From the moment the evening started, the dance floor was never empty. The energy was off the charts - people belting out lyrics, friends spinning each other around, and more than a few moves that would’ve scored 10/10 for enthusiasm, if not for technique.

At one point, a guest (who we are actually photographing soon) got so into it that his shirt came off entirely. Meanwhile, Mark was spotted twirling his waistcoat above his head like a victory flag. This wasn’t polite swaying, this was full commitment to the cause of celebration.

Why I’ll Remember This One

I’ll remember it for the energy. For the moment the shirt came off. For Colin. For the way the whole barn shook with music and laughter. And for the beach walk where Laura & Mark got to breathe it all in, just the two of them.

Laura & Mark, thank you for letting me be part of your wedding. If I could bottle up the atmosphere from your day and take it to every wedding I shoot, I would.
